100% Barbera from Piedmont, Italy
Rich • zesty • black raspberry • liquorice
'Umberta' is a vibrant and expressive red wine made entirely from organically grown Barbera. Named after King Umberto of Turin, this wine offers a nod to Piedmontese tradition while remaining resolutely modern in its natural approach. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts, before ageing in stainless steel. Unfined, unfiltered, and with only minimal sulphur added post-fermentation, it’s a bold yet joyful wine, full of black fruit, liquorice, and spice.
The Iuli vineyards are cultivated entirely by hand and follow organic and some biodynamic principles. Located in a historic winemaking valley, the wines are made in the ancient Cascina cellar using traditional, low-intervention techniques. The emphasis is on balance, authenticity, and expressing the minerality of the chalky-white soils.
Fabrizio Iuli refers to himself as a ‘barberista’—a lover and champion of the Barbera grape. He believes that natural farming must make practical as well as philosophical sense—and it shows in every bottle. His wines are a reflection of place, pace, and purpose.
