100% Ciliegiolo from Lazio, Italy

This light red is pure Ciliegiolo – the cherry-scented native grape that thrives in Lazio’s southern Sabina hills. ‘Sassolini’ comes from the youngest vines on the farm, and is bottled with no sulphites, no filtration, and absolutely no messing about.
It pours a vibrant ruby-purple, with aromas of black cherries, liquorice and wild herbs. Chill it slightly and drink it young – this is a joyful, natural red that’s all about energy and expression.
The Sassi family farm is a small organic holding perched 300m above sea level. Leonardo Sassi revived the farm in 2007 and now works with minimal intervention to craft wines of place and character. Maceration lasts just five days to keep things light and juicy, with ageing in fibreglass tanks on the lees for added texture.
