The Story
100% Gamay Noir from the Niagara Peninsula, Canada.
Cherry • smoky • supple • earthen spice
A fantastic example of Niagara's cool-climate Gamay Noir, the 2020 vintage shows a wonderful balance of vibrant red fruit and a deeper, smoky character. The grapes are wild-fermented using a mix of whole-cluster and destemmed fruit, then aged in neutral French oak barriques for around 15 months to build complexity and nuance. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the result is an elegant, medium-bodied red that is juicy but structured, displaying bright cherry, violets, and a lovely earthen finish.
The Rosewood story is rooted in a multi-generational family legacy that blends winemaking with beekeeping, a tradition tracing back 90 years to the Roman family's roots in Ukraine. Founder Eugene Roman and his wife Renata established the estate on the Niagara Escarpment, driven by a philosophy of 'Earth to Bottle.' The team is committed to sustainability and low-intervention methods, nurturing two distinct vineyard sites—Renaceau and Blackjack—that benefit from limestone-rich clay soils and the temperature-moderating effects of Lake Ontario. This holistic approach, which includes keeping vibrant bee colonies, ensures their wild-fermented wines authentically express the cool-climate terroir of the Niagara Peninsula.
